A private investment of three million euros has been announced for Virela, an aging village in the parish of Arcozelo das Maias, in the municipality of Oliveira de Frades. The resort, which will open on August 28, aims to revitalize the area, which has been facing demographic challenges.

Fernando Almeida, the investor behind the project, made the transition from the Alentejo coast, where he previously focused on a hotel business in Vila Nova de Milfontes, in the municipality of Odemira, Beja. Despite the change, Almeida has always expressed the desire to return and invest in his hometown.

The resort project aims to provide tourism services in the region and contribute to the economic development of the village, which has seen a decline in population over recent years.

Virela, defined as an aging village, is marked by its social and demographic challenges. The implementation of a resort could be an alternative to attract visitors and promote local employment.

The opening of the new resort is eagerly anticipated by the local community, which sees this investment as an opportunity to revitalize the area and potentially reverse the trend of population aging.
