Grave Threats Case Filed Against Vice President Sara Duterte

The Department of Justice (DOJ) has filed a formal complaint for grave threats against Vice President Sara Duterte. According to DOJ spokesperson Atty. Polo Martinez, the complaint is based on alleged comments made by Duterte about wanting to have President Marcos and his family killed. The case is categorized as a violation of Article 282 of the Revised Penal Code and also relates to Section 6 of Republic Act No. 10175.

This filing comes in addition to the already ongoing impeachment trial concerning similar allegations against Duterte. Her remarks reportedly included discussions about contracting a hitman, which have drawn significant attention and legal action.

Two members of the House prosecution team expressed their support for the DOJ's decision to file these complaints. Lead prosecutor and Batangas Representative Gerville Luistro stated that the actions indicate that no one is above the law, emphasizing the seriousness of the allegations made against the Vice President.

The developments have sparked discussions about accountability and legal repercussions for public officials in the Philippines, further complicating Duterte's legal standing as she navigates her impeachment trial.
