The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) stated on Tuesday (11) that periods of extreme heat are becoming more frequent and intense. John Kennedy, head of climate information at the WMO, emphasized that climate change is causing global warming, resulting in longer heatwaves that are covering larger areas than in the past.

The WMO's declaration underscores the changes observed since the European summer of 1976, which was marked by high temperatures. Since then, various regions have faced a growing incidence of adverse weather conditions, including droughts and wildfires.

This summer, several parts of Europe are dealing with the fifth heatwave, highlighting a concerning pattern linked to extreme weather phenomena. The persistent drought exacerbates the situation and raises alarms about the impacts of climate change in the region.

The WMO continues to monitor weather and climate conditions in various parts of the world, aiming to raise awareness about the effects of global warming.
