SpaceX Rocket Believed to Have Crashed into the Moon

A four-tonne section of a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket is believed to have crashed into the moon on Wednesday at a speed of 5,400 miles per hour. The discarded rocket part, which has been orbiting in space since last year, was part of a launch that sent two commercial lunar landers into orbit.

Scientists have reported '100% confidence' that the rocket's upper stage unintentionally collided with the moon's surface. This event is expected to create a new crater on the lunar surface, confirmed by imaging that will be returned later.

The impact posed no danger to Earth, according to reports. It is anticipated that the collision's effects will be documented through subsequent imaging, allowing scientists to analyze the new crater's characteristics.
