Colombia faces challenges in search for survivors after earthquake

Colombia reached a critical point in its rescue operations on Wednesday (12) following the 7.4 magnitude earthquake that struck the west of the country. As of now, no international teams are available to assist in the search for potential survivors beneath the rubble of collapsed buildings.

The latest data provided by local authorities indicates a total of 216 deaths, although another source reports more than 250 fatalities. The situation continues to evolve as rescuers work against the clock in their search for survivors.

On Tuesday (11), a remarkable rescue occurred when rescuers managed to pull a woman alive from the rubble in Pereira, 36 hours after the earthquake. This rescue highlights the ongoing efforts of local emergency teams, who face significant challenges in their operations.

Authorities emphasize that the 72-hour window is crucial for finding survivors, and the delay in the arrival of international aid may impact the effectiveness of rescue operations. Efforts to coordinate assistance are underway, but the situation remains critical.
